Girls National Baseball Tournament - San Francisco, July 23-28, 2016

I'm looking forward to meeting old friends and new at the upcoming Girls Baseball Nationals in San Francisco. Despite the game being "America's national pastime" more than 99% of players are male. I deeply admire and respect the women and girls who choose to play, coach and umpire baseball, in the face of persistent and deeply rooted gender bias.

What I Really Really Want ...is Gender Equality

I really like it when famous people use their celebrity for good. Victoria Beckham and Emma Watson tweeted out support for this awesome video by The Global Goals. Take a look at the video, an old amazing Spice Girls song. #WhatIReallyReallyWant #GenderEquality #EndChildMarriage #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #QualityEducationForAllGirls

Using the #WhatIReallyReallyWant hashtag, share a photo of yourself holding up what YOU really, really want for girls and women... In 2015 world leaders promised to put girls and women first when they signed up to the Sustainable Development Goals to end poverty, fix climate change and tackle inequalities.

A nice thing happened yesterday ...

The Oaks (my Babe Ruth team) became league champions last night after a 10-1 victory. It was a great season, and I'm going to miss my 15 year old teammates who are aging out. I had been out of action for a couple of months due to injury so I'm really glad my ankle recovered enough so that I could return to action before the season was over.

Brie Mathers of Love The Skin You're In

The inspiring Brie Mathers of Love The Skin You're In came to speak at my school last week. She spoke about being strong when watching social and print media and not to accept everything that is directed at us. She also encouraged us to be kind to ourselves as well as be good friends to each other.
Thanks Brie for being a fantastic role model. I really enjoyed meeting you!

Hey Sports Illustrated, why don't you feature women for being great athletes...not sex objects?

Hi Everyone,

The Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue 2016 came out this week.

I wrote this letter to SI in protest.

"You should be ashamed of yourself Sports Illustrated. Your swimsuit issue is all about using sexism to make money.

Think about how much harm you are doing in terms of how women are perceived. Think about the message that you are sending to the millions of boys and men, and women and girls, who read your magazine.

There are more pictures of women in your most recent issue than in your last 50 issues combined. But why are they featured in America's top sports magazine? Not because of their athletic accomplishments. Only because of the way they look. They are models, not athletes. And, Ronda Rousey, the one great athlete who you feature on your cover? You show her naked, wearing only body paint.

I'm only 13 years old. But I'm a girl, I'm an athlete, and I know this is wrong.

GOT #GAMEFACE ?

Are you excited about the Women's World Cup?  At this exciting time in women's sports, the Oregon-based fashion label WILDFANG asked photographer, mother and talented athlete Andrea Corradini, to take pictures of 14 young athletes ages 5-14, at their most real and authentic moment, right before they stepped out to play a soccer match. Here are the pictures. They are awesome!
