Giving Girls Role Models

I like playing baseball because it's fun. But it recently dawned on me that by playing baseball with boys I can have a big impact on a lot of people, including my teammates, players on other teams, parents, and coaches. They get to see that a girl can play baseball and can be a really good player. I hope all you girls out there realize that you are impacting a lot of people in your communities too. Some of the little girls who have seen you play might be inspired to play baseball themselves....Here's an article about a cool role model we all heard about last summer, Mo'ne Davis!

You may not realize it, but being a leader is being an example to others.

Microaggressions

Here is the definition of a microaggression:

"Microaggressions are the everyday verbal, nonverbal ... slights, snubs, or insults, whether intentional or unintentional, which communicate hostile, derogatory, or negative messages to target people based solely upon their race or gender".

Have you experienced a microaggression when playing the sport you love, or in your everyday life? Please share your story.

Hope to hear from my friends out there!
